Song traditions carried across the Mediterranean.
Three Sephardic Songs for Concert Band draws on the Ladino song tradition carried by Sephardic Jewish communities from medieval Spain into the wider Mediterranean world. The three selections—La rosa enflorece, Una tadre fresquita de Mayo, and Si Verias a la Rana—move from lyrical longing to a playful final refrain. Steven Light’s setting brings their Mediterranean melodic color, dance rhythms, and vocal character to the concert-band repertoire.
