Arrangements for Recorders

Canon a 4, Voc. Perpetuus

J. S. Bach’s ingenious “riddle canon,” realized for four recorders.

About the work

One line, four players.

Bach wrote this compact perpetual canon as a single musical line with four clefs. Four players begin the same line at different pitches, turning the riddle into an ever-circling four-part piece. This SATB recorder realization is based on an arrangement by David J. Grossman.
