Here are mp3s of our program:
| Selection (click to listen) | Description |
|---|---|
| Toccata from l'Orfeo-Monteverdi | This is a short fanfare type piece starting off with a brass choir and then continuing to add everyone. Very regal and a great concert starter. |
| Ghost Dances-Barrett | Inspired by the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. It goes through lots of changes including a cool aleatoric section. |
| Valse Triste-Sibelius/Light | The VT Symphony played the orchestral version at their most recent concert at JSC. I thought it would sound great on winds so I've been orchestrating it for us. Sorry about the electronic sounds - we'll sound much better. |
| New York: 1927-Barker | This piece is in 3 sections: ragtime, slow blues and "Manhattan Mayhem". Fun. |
Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion-P.D.Q Bach |
Silly, silly. But fun for the players and audience. We'll do 2 movements (enough is enough). |
| Tir Na Nog "A Celtic Legend"-Strommen | Very nice Irish inspired composition. "Tir Na Nog" means "Land of Youth" and refers to a mythical Celtic world. |
| Moorside March-Holst | Classic Holst march from "A Moorside Suite" |
| Amazing Grace-Ticheli | Ticheli is know for his beautiful arrangements (actually fantasias) on traditional tunes. This is one of my favorites. |
| Rush-Hazo | Sam Hazo is a very dynamic young composer. We played his piece entitled "Flight" a few semesters ago. This is the "sequel". |
