The Johnson State College Concert Band - Fall 2014 Repertoire

The JSC Concert Band is a relaxed, fun loving and musically dedicated group of fine musicians who enjoy working together to produce technically accurate and musically sensitive performances. It is made up of Johnson State students (both music majors and not), select high school students and fantastic community members. All are welcome to join. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7-9 PM

Fall 14 Repertoire

O Magnum Mysterium - Giovanni Gabrieli, arr. for concert band for by me.

This is a double choir piece for antiphonal choirs. I've arranged this great Renaissance composition for the band divided in two. HERE is a vocal/instrumental version.

Canzon a 12 - Gabrielli, also arranged by me.

This is a triple choir (sometimes called "double echo") antiphonal instrumental piece. So, the band will split into three sections!

Tribute to Grainger - Percy Grainger, arr. Ragsdale

A medley of three beautiful Grainger pieces.

Overture to Candide - Leonard Bernstein, arr. Beeler

Bernstein wrote this Operetta in 1956. This arrangement stays very true to the original orchestral score.

Balkan Time - Steven Light

This is a medley of four traditional Macedonian and Bulgarian tunes arranged for concert band.

I. Jovano, Jovanke is a beautiful Macedonian song in 7/8 time. HERE is an original recording.

II. Buchimish is a Bulgarian circle dance in 15/8. HERE is an original recording.

III. Kanjat Me, Mamo is a Bulgarian song. HERE is an original recording.

IV. Gankino Horo is another Bulgarian circle dance, this one in 11/8. HERE is an original recording.

Cloudburst - Eric Whitacre

Whitacre first wrote this for chorus and then rewrote it for band which he said turned the composition into "technicolor". Get ready for singing, thundersheets, fingersnaps and more.

This is a cool medley of four Jazz hits.

Lord of the Dance - Richatd Saucedo

This is a fun seasonal piece made famous by Riverdance performances. We'll do this in our concert and the Holiday Gala.
