Recruiting strategies - (from SMM students) - not in any particular order… 

• Put up posters
• Perform at the sending schools
• Have a district-wide Band and/or Chorus Day
• Step up day
• Enlist help of the guidance counselors
• Have older students talk to younger students
• Band buddies
• Make calls in the summer to welcome new students
• HS students visit the 4^th grades
• Select groups tour sending schools
• Information night
• Personal invitation to prospective students
• Fine Arts Festival
• Younger kids sit in with older
• Try out instruments before choosing
• HS groups be as visible as possible in the community
• Pep bands @ athletic events
• Create, print & distribute flyers
• General music classes to “lure” non-musicians in
• Build a good reputation in the community and sending schools
• Promote music dept. trips
• Explain HS program (auditions, festival, various groups, etc) to students
• Director make visits to the sending schools
• Information night
• Older students lead younger students’ rehearsals
• Communicate directly to parents
• Perform for peers
• Perform at lunchtime
• Student body attends dress rehearsals
• Singing "candy grams"
• Announcements over the intercom
• Community sings (caroling, etc.) outside of school
• Convey that it is fun
