About Me

All About Me

My name is Aaron Doane and I am a senior at Johnson State College in Johnson, VT. I am a Music Education major with a focus in instrumental performance, hoping to graduate in the Fall of 2011. My primary instrument is clarinet, but I also enjoy playing saxophone and guitar as well as singing.

I grew up in the small town of Bakersfield in northern VT, just a half hour away from where I now attend school. I was raised on a small dairy farm of 150 jersey cows, along with my 3 younger siblings. I attended Bakersfield Elementary School where I first began to learn about music in my general music classes. When I reached 4th grade, I picked up the clarinet and haven't set it down since.

After graduating 8th grade, I made my way to Enosburg Falls High School, where my love for music grew even more. I attended district, All-State, and New England festivals, auditioning either on clarinet or voice. My junior year, I came 9 points away from a perfect score as a tenor in the All-State choir and, my senior year, I was accepted to the New-England festival choir as a bass. My senior year, I was also the 3rd highest scoring clarinetist in my district.

High school was also where I acquired my love for teaching music. I originally intended on becoming a history teacher, but my mind was changed at the last minute. AS a senior, I had a lot of free time during the school day and I would find myself hanging around the band room. My band instructor would often be giving middle school instrument lessons during this time and would sometimes ask me to help teach. I absolutely loved helping and that was when I decided that teaching music was what I wanted to do.
