Read Viewport III Digital Audio Basics

Review the online projects for additional information about Audacity (Nos. 6 & 7)

Work on your Digital Audio Project in Audacity

Remember:

- Can't sound "tonal" but must fit your definition of "Music"

- Must be between 1 and 2 minutes long

- Must be completed in next week's class

Class 5 September 23 & Class 6 Sept. 30 (no class) Online & Discussion Board work instead

Read Viewport VIII (CAIM)

1. Choose the top 3 CAIM websites/software and post their URL's on the class Discussion Board with some comments about what they do and why you like them. Then each of you needs to check everyone else's out and post a comment about each one. Be prepared to present them in class on Oct. 14

2. Revise/add to your websites if necessary and be ready to give to me to upload after break. Go to our Student page and check out how your site works and fix what you need to.

3. Review the VT MIDI Project website: go to www.vtmidi.org and check out:

We'll be starting to mentor right after break (actual during if you want to get a head start)

4. Go to http://www.sibeliuseducation.com/
and look at their resources and worksheets. Then after you feel familiar with them use Sibelius to create a worksheet or resource of of your own design. We will share these in class after break.

5. We'll also explore aspects of Sibelius you may not be familiar with. Look at the Sibelius outline and mark which topics you are interested in covering. Also in that class we will explore Noteflight in an interactive Skype video conference with Sandi MacLeod, Director of the VT MIDI Project.

Class 2 September 2

Continue to design your website using the 5 ideals:

1. What is the intent/audience?

2. What is the content?

3. How is it designed?

4. How, and how well is it organized?

5. How easy is it to navigate?

6. (How easy is it to edit?)

Reading: Viewport I

1. Think of at least one more “misconception” you or someone you know has about technology.

Survey: Email a music teacher you know and ask him/her 3 questions regarding technology in their teaching and school.

Continue your search for a model music related (either musician/teacher or school music program) website (not myspace, etc).

Be prepared to present it and say why it is a model for you and what you’d change.


Class 1 August 26

Read: Preface

Write reflective paper (1-2 pages) - answer these questions:

i. What is your comfort level with computer technology and specific music technologies?

ii. What have you used (software, hardware, etc.)?

iii. What do you think is your level of expertise?

iv. What are your personal interests concerning technology?

v. What do you see as possible uses of technologies in your future teaching?

vi. What do you envision for developing technologies in the future?

In class be prepared to:

i. Discuss papers

ii. Begin web design

iii. Search, critique and share school music websites
