Important Tips and Reminders
Take the Praxis I exam early (sophomore or junior year) - Successful completion of the Praxis I is necessary and required for student teaching placement. (There is an exemption for students with high SAT scores)
Keep copies of papers, projects, and experiences from classes that might be used as artifacts in your licensure portfolio
Attend the Student Teacher Application meeting held early in the semester PRIOR to the term one plans to student teach - this meeting initiates the placement process
General Prerequisites for Student Teaching:
- 60 Clock hours of field experience
- Total GPA of 3.0 or better
- Completed Adolescent Development/Child Development, Exceptional Populations, Educational Psychology, Literacy Development, and Music Ed Methods courses all with a grade of B- or better
- Satisfy the Praxis I requirement
- Receive recommendation from the major department concerning academic competency for licensure
Deadline for applying for student teaching:
- All prerequisites and requirements for student teaching MUST be completed and applications submitted by the following dates:
- For fall placements: March 15th
- For spring placements: October 15th
